Eclipse Single User Installation & Registration FAQ

The following information is provided to assist users with registering Eclipse Single User on their computers. This information applies to Eclipse 4.x series software ONLY. If you are attempting to install or register versions outside of Eclipse 4.x, please find the appropriate documentation for that release.

IMPORTANT: If you are having any issues with installing or registering Eclipse on your computer, please go through this page IN DETAIL, STEP-BY-STEP.

The most common reason for failed installation and/or registration is incompatibility or lack of security permissions. Before installing/registering Eclipse, please check these items and verify you are compliant with them:

  1. Hardware compatibility. Eclipse requires a Windows 32 Bit PC (Eclipse may run on Windows 64 Bit OS, but has not been tested in these environments). The computer should be configured with at least 3GB of available disk space on the C: drive, at least 3GB of available disk space on the target disk drive where the software is to be installed, a P4 or better processor running at least at 2Ghz (or AMD equivalent), video resolution of at least 1024 x 768 (Eclipse will not run in lower resolutions), and at least 256mb of RAM available to the Eclipse application.

    Note: RAM is important. On operating systems such as Windows Vista, RAM and hardware requirements must be optimized to get decent performance out of ANY application. In the case of Windows XP, we suggest a minimum of 1GB of RAM. On Vista, we suggest a minimum of 2GB of RAM to be installed in the computer. If you are running a lot of other applications at the same time, increase RAM accordingly. Eclipse ALWAYS needs at least 128mb of RAM available to it, and 256MB is optimal. The more the better.

  2. Regional compatibility. Eclipse is an application that will work well in regions that use the Roman/Latin character sets. However if run in a regional that does not use ISO-8559-1 character set (non-Latin), Eclipse simply will not work. Regions where there are known problems with Eclipse and Eclipse will not work in those areas are:

    * China
    * India
    * Greece
    * Russia
    * Turkey
    * Pakistan
    * Sri Lanka

    Areas where Eclipse has been tested and work fine are:

    * All English speaking regions (USA, Canada, Australia, UK, New Zealand, South Africa, etc.)
    * Spanish speaking regions (Spain, Latin America, South America)
    * Portuguese speaking regions
    * Italian speaking regions
    * French speaking regions
    * German speaking regions
    * Scandanavian regions

    Other regions are unknown, however we suggest trying the software out first and verifying if it works in your area if you are not listed above

  3. Operating system compatibility. Eclipse has been tested with the following operating systems:

    * Windows XP Professional
    * Windows 2000 Professional
    * Windows 2000 Server
    * Windows 2003 Server
    * Windows Vista Business Edition
    * Windows Vista Ultimate Edition

    Eclipse v4.x will NOT run successfully on the following operating systems:

    * Windows Vista HOME Edition
    * Windows 2008 Server
    * Versions of Windows prior to Windows 2000 (ie. Windows 95, 98, ME)
    * Windows NT

    NOTE: Eclipse v5 IS compatible with Windows Vista & Windows 7 versions, and will operate on Windows Server 2008

  4. Data Execution Protection

    If you are running Windows XP Pro Service Pack 2 or later, Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 or later, or Windows Vista, you must ensure that Data Execution Protection is disabled. Certain hardware configurations will force Eclipse to quit on start up if DEP is enabled.

    For more information and instructions on how to Disable Data Execution Protection, CLICK HERE.

  5. User Security & Compatibility Modes

    If you are running on a computer that has user security implemented, you should install Eclipse for ALL Users. When you go to register Eclipse, be sure that you are logged into your computer with Administrator rights. Some registration activity on the computer that is required for unlocking the software requires that you have adequate rights to Administer your system (and therefore install software).

    Windows VISTA specific for Eclipse 4.x only : Eclipse was designed to work with Windows XP Professional, however our testing has shown that it works fine in Windows Vista as long as you have adequate hardware resources available to it. We have had it reported that it has problems with Vista HOME Edition, and therefore will not guarantee compatibility for that environment. We have, however, tested on Windows Vista Business & Ultimate Editions and not had any issues with internal lab testing.

    In order to ensure that you are able to install and register the software successfully, we suggest the following:

    * Make sure you have logged into your computer with Administrator rights
    * You should disable User Access Control in order to be able to install and register Eclipse successfully. CLICK HERE for instructions on how to do this.
    * You may wish to set the installer for Eclipse to run in Windows XP Professional compatibility mode. To do this, find your Eclipse Installer file that was downloaded from us. Before running it, right click on the file, and go to Properties for the file. Select the 'Compatibility' tab and choose to run as a Windows XP Professional application:

    Compatibilty mode

    We have tested installing and registering Eclipse without doing this on a Windows Vista Business Edition system, with UAC disabled, and it worked fine. This may, however, be a requirement on some systems.

The Eclipse registration process for Single User Eclipse systems (not Multi-User Eclipse systems) is based on an unlock code being entered that matches the Trial key specific to the target computer that you are installing on. This means that if you attempt to install the software on multiple computers, it won't work. Your unlock code is specifically matched to the instance and computer that Eclipse was installed on. Install a 2nd Eclipse system on that same computer, and you'll get a different Trial Key and the unlock code won't match to it.

It also means that if you re-install your OS on that computer, or upgrade to a different computer, you'll need to get a new unlock code from us. This isn't a problem. Just CONTACT US and we'll happily give you a new one. However if we see repeated requests for this, we'll want more reassurance that you are not copying the software on multiple computers, or giving it to your friends, etc.

In all cases, we'll need you to send us the Trial Key for your installation in order to get a matching unlock code. CLICK HERE for instructions on how to do this.
